Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai hosted a lunch reception yesterday afternoon at MGM MACAU for Macau-based Portuguese- and English-language media enterprises. At the start of the reception, Sam delivered a speech in Portuguese in which he reaffirmed that “freedom of the press in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) is fully protected by the Basic Law of the MSAR and the Press Law.”

On the other hand, Sam urged the Portuguese- and English-language media “to report and promote Macau objectively, fairly, and attentively, telling good stories about China [as a whole] and Macau to the world.”

He also expressed his hope that journalists from the Portuguese- and English-language media will “proactively venture into the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area [GBA], and various sister provinces and regions in the Chinese mainland to gain first-hand insights into its latest developments.”

The luncheon was also attended by two of his government’s five policy secretaries, namely Secretary for Administration and Justice Wong Sio Chak and Secretary for Economy and Finance Anton Tai Kin Yip, as well as senior members of his office and the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS), including the latter’s acting director, Louie Wong Lok I.
