The annual “Jointly Creating a New Environment for the Community 2026” public awareness promotion carnival will take place in Iao Hon Market Park next Saturday, February 7, aiming to further raise residents’ awareness of crime prevention and reduction through a raft of themed educational activities, thereby enhancing collaboration between the government and the public, as well as building a safe and healthy community and fostering a favourable living environment in Macau, according a statement released by the co-organisers yesterday.

The one-day event is co-organised by the Macau General Union of Neighbourhood Associations (commonly known as Kai Fong in Cantonese), in conjunction with the Unitary Police Service (SPU), Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), Public Security Police (PSP), Judiciary Police (PJ), Fire Services Bureau (CB), Health Bureau (SSM), and the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA).

The entities co-hosted yesterday a press conference at the Kai Fong headquarters in Toi San district about the upcoming activity.

The upcoming event will kick off at 2:30 p.m. and end at 5 p.m. on February 7, featuring eight game booths, educational videos, themed workshops, performances, equipment displays and on-site exhibitions, including fire engines, police vehicles, as well as rarely seen firefighting equipment, crime scene investigation vehicles, and investigative tools, allowing residents to see the equipment up close and gain firsthand experience in crime prevention and fire safety.

Kai Fong Vice President Cheong Sok Leng said in a speech that in recent years online scams, phone fraud and emerging financial fraud techniques have been continuously evolving, making it extremely important to strengthen public awareness of fraud prevention. Additionally, incidents of pedestrians failing to comply with traffic rules remain a concern worthy of attention.

Cheong noted she hoped that collaboration between the government and residents can be enhanced through this event. By focusing on five key areas, namely fire prevention, theft prevention, fraud prevention, crime prevention, and traffic safety, and utilising diverse approaches such as interactive booths, scenario simulations, and themed education, the event aims to elevate residents’ self-protection awareness and response capabilities, Cheong said.

Meanwhile, as the Chinese New Year (CNY) is approaching, Cheong pointed out that the dry and windy weather significantly increases the risk of fires so it is crucial to heighten awareness of home fire safety and exercise caution when using gas stoves and electric heating devices while celebrating the festival.
