According to a Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) statement yesterday, the Macao Chinese Orchestra has announced that it will present the concert “Dawn Breaks” this Friday at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Small Auditorium in Nape, opening its 2025–26 Concert Season with a programme blending new and classic Chinese music.

Scheduled to start at 7:45 p.m., the concert is themed around “the break of day that symbolises hope and renewal”, the statement noted.

Under the baton of resident conductor Liao Yuan-Yu, the orchestra will be joined by bamboo flautist Hou Guangyu, who will perform the flute concerto “Bamboo Reverie” with the orchestra, the statement said, adding that it will portray the many forms of bamboo through layered flute melodies, aiming to create an artistic realm that shifts between reality and illusion.

Meanwhile, ruan* section principal Lin Jie will also perform “Ode to the Sun”, striving to highlight both the warmth and brilliance of sunlight while conveying joy and encouragement, according to the bureau.

Other featured pieces include “Formation Break: Contempo”, which will reinterpret traditional melodies through contemporary musical language; “Aspirations”, which aims to symbolise a bright future; and the orchestra’s commissioned work “Macau Impressions”, which will depict the city’s cultural landscape through music, the statement added.

Supported by the Bank of China (BOC) Macau Branch, the concert will last about 90 minutes with one interval, the statement said.

Tickets, priced at 200 patacas and 150 patacas, are currently on sale via the Macau Ticketing Network (https://www.macauticket.com), with discounts available under the “Discover New Chinese Music” package.
