An exhibition showcasing the work of film production designers is now open to the public.

Titled “Behind the Scenes, Beyond the Frame: Exhibition of Production Design on Macao Film” and located at Cinematheque•Passion, the display focuses on three local films: “Our Seventeen”, “Kissing the Ground You Walked On”, and “I Want to Be a Plastic Chair”.

A visit to the exhibition reveals a compact, single-room layout dedicated to the three featured films. Each section displays exhibits such as behind-the-scenes photographs, samples of materials used in set construction, and comparisons of set designs before and after completion. Small screens feature video interviews with the production designers and other collaborators, while informational text on the walls provides background on each designer and lists other films they have worked on.

According to the statement from the event organisers, the exhibition reveals the creative process behind filmmaking through the perspectives of art directors, set designers, and costume designers. It features exclusive interviews, design sketches, notes, and actual props and costumes from the five featured designers: Chantelle Cheang (鄭敏靜), Paula Lo Pou I (羅寶宜), Celeste Chau da Luz (李晞晴), Monyca Wong (黃芷珺), and Nancy Io (姚露欣).

The statement pointed out that the designers, who come from diverse backgrounds, have contributed a distinct artistic style to Macau’s nascent film industry through their creative methods.

The exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is closed on Mondays. Admission is free. The arthouse cinema is located at 9-13 Travessa da Paixão (戀愛巷9-13號) near the Ruins of St Paul’s.
