A traffic accident involving two cars colliding with a motorcycle occurred near the Traffic Police headquarters on Rua da Fonte da Inveja (二龍喉街) around 2 p.m. yesterday, causing the motorcycle rider and pillion in their 60s to fall and sustain injuries, after which firefighters quickly arrived at the scene for assistance, according to a statement released by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) yesterday.

The statement noted that after examination, the two injured individuals (the motorcycle rider and pillion) are local females in their 60s. They suffered head injuries but remained conscious and stable. Both were rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for treatment, the statement added.

According to a separate statement released by the Public Security Police (PSP) yesterday, a silver car hit the motorcycle from behind and then collided with a white car in front.

The driver of the silver car, a female in her 70s, faces a fine for failing to maintain a safe driving distance, the statement said, adding that the cause of the accident is under investigation.

The statement did not disclose whether the driver of the silver car is a local resident.

Alcohol breath tests confirmed that neither the two car drivers nor the motorcycle rider had consumed alcohol, the statement said.

This photo circulating on social networking platforms yesterday shows a silver car which had hit the motorcycle from behind and then collided with the white car in front, and the motorcycle rider and pillion on the ground on Rua da Fonte da Inveja close to the Traffic Police headquarters.
