Over 36.4 million visit Macau in Jan-Nov

     Macau recorded 36.48 million visitor arrivals in the first 11 months of the year, marking a year-on-year growth of 14.4 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced today.

Same-day visitors (21.41 million; 60.8 percent of the total) and overnight visitors (15.07 million) increased by 24.7 percent and 2.4 percent, respectively.

In November, the number of visitor arrivals rose by 18.1 percent year-on-year to 3.34 million. Visitors stayed for an average of one day. On average, Macau recorded 111,522 visitors in November. 

A total of 2.39 million mainland Chinese visited Macau last month, up by 21.9 percent year-on-year. Visitor arrivals from the Chinese mainland accounted for 71.6 percent of the total. Visitors from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (584,108) and Taiwan (90,282) increased by 5.4 percent and 27.1 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Visitors from these three Chinese regions accounted for 91.8 percent of Macau’s total visitor arrivals in November, when the number of foreign visitors grew by 13.6 percent to 273,950, or 8.2 percent of the total. South Koreans (55,517) and Philippine nationals (49,748) once again constituted Macau’s two main international visitor segments.

Last year, Macau recorded 34.9 million visitor arrivals. Macau’s visitor arrival record stands at 39.4 million, achieved in 2019. Between early 2020 and late 2021, Macau’s tourism industry was severely affected by the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
