The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced in a Friday statement that “Operation Oops! A Musical”, an original comedy produced under the “Commissioning Performing Arts Productions 2024–2026” project, is slated to be staged over three performances from January 31 to February 2 next year at the Small Auditorium of the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) in Nape.
Adapted from the homonymous novel by local playwright Lawrence Lei I Leong, “Operation Oops!” aims to bring together an all-star creative team comprising local and regional talents, the statement said.
The musical will feature a score by Golden Horse Award-winning composer Leon Ko Sai-tseung, with direction by Fong Chun Kit of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, the statement noted, adding that the choreography is conceived by local dance creator Florence Cheong Ut Ieng.
According to the statement, the production stars Jordan Cheng (鄭君熾), a multi-award-winning local performer and recipient of the Best Actor award at the 31st Hong Kong Drama Awards, leading a cast in this original comedy.
The statement noted that the story centres on a group of misfits driven to extremes by soaring housing prices, who hatch a desperate and absurd plan, which leads to a series of comic mishaps that soon derail the zero-budget scheme, plunging the characters into escalating chaos.
Presented by the bureau, the musical aims to form a part of its ongoing effort to commission original performing art works and support collaboration between local and regional practitioners, strengthening Macau’s performing arts ecosystem.
Tickets are currently on sale from Sunday via Enjoy Macao Ticketing, Damai and Maoyan platforms. Details on ticketing and promotional offers may be found via www.icm.gov.mo or by contacting 2840 0555.
