Macau Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai has “recently” convened and chaired the third meeting of the Leadership Group for Promoting the Development of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, urging local officials with responsibility for the zone’s matters to conduct a comprehensive review of their upcoming tasks related to the zone’s development, advance key projects in an orderly and systematic manner, and continue to deploy their most capable civil servants to participate in the zone’s development, according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) yesterday.
The meeting, held at Government Headquarters, was attended by Sam’s five policy secretaries and his chief-of-cabinet Chan Kak.
However, the statement did not say when exactly the meeting was held.
Sam, who took office in December last year, set up the leadership group in February.
According to the GCS statement, Sam said that since its establishment, the leading group has held three meetings, at which decisions have been made to strengthen the Macau government’s support for the in-depth cooperation zone’s development in areas including policy, legislation, personnel, and resource allocation.
Sam noted that adjustments were made last month to the composition of officials of the in-depth cooperation zone’s management and executive committees. Building upon a solid foundation, Sam said, the two committees will continue to play a coordinating role in integration, focusing on promoting the zone’s high-quality development.
Looking forward, Sam said, the zone’s development will centre on key areas such as scientific and technological innovation, industrial advancement, enhancing convenience for Macau residents living or working there, and facilitating the efficient movement of people and goods between Macau and Hengqin.
According to the statement, Sam pledged that his government will launch and implement a comprehensive package of policies and measures with the aim of injecting greater momentum into the zone’s overall development, enabling it to present a renewed outlook and achieve new breakthroughs.
