A woman from the Chinese mainland was arrested on Sunday for usury and falsely accusing a man of rape, PJ spokesman Ho Wai Lok said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Ho identified the suspect as a 33-year-old female surnamed Shen who claimed to be jobless.
According to Ho, the police received a report on Sunday afternoon from Shen, who claimed that she had been raped by a man from the Chinese mainland in a hotel guestroom in Cotai. However, the police later discovered that the information provided by Shen was inconsistent with the details of the case, and a medical examination also confirmed that there were no obvious signs of injuries caused by resisting sexual intercourse.
Ho noted that Shen had met the man on Thursday in a casino, where she “helped” him to gamble but ended up losing HK$40,000 (41,300 patacas) in cash. Between Thursday and Saturday, Shen offered to lend the victim HK$100,000 in chips, pledging that if he managed to recover his losses, he would only need to repay HK$20,000 of the HK$40,000 he had lost beforehand. However, the victim ended up gambling away all the borrowed chips. Shen then went to the victim’s hotel guestroom to negotiate the repayment terms, during which they engaged in sexual activity, Ho said.
Ho added that the victim signed an IOU for HK$130,000, which included HK$100,000 as the principal, HK$20,000 as “repayment”, and HK$10,000 as “interest”. On Sunday, after failing to contact the victim, Shen falsely reported to the police that she had been raped.
Shen has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of making a false report and usury.
