The third edition of the MGM Macau Tennis Masters is slated to take place on December 27 and 28 at Macau Forum in Zape, with the court set to see star athletes led by two female tennis legends: China’s Li Na and Conchita Martínez from Spain.

Li, who returns this year, and Martínez are both Grand Slam champions as well as International Tennis Hall of Famers. They are set to lead rising and established players for the 2025 MGM Macau Tennis Masters including Russia’s Mirra Andreeva, the Philippine’s Alexandra Eala, China’s Jerry Shang Juncheng, Jack Draper from the UK, and Jakub Menšík from the Czech Republic.

Delivering a speech at a press conference yesterday at MGM COTAI to introduce event details, Catarina Lio (廖頴琦), senior vice president of brand marketing of MGM, noted: “This year’s tournament specially features an all-female captain lineup to celebrate the power of women. Paired with youth-orientated interactive sessions and cross-disciplinary dialogues, the event invites the audience to witness how the spirit of sport inspires and amplifies the voice of women in the new era while enjoying the matches”.

Following the press conference, Li Na told the Post during a separate English-language interview what she had observed about young players, noting that many of them, particularly female ones, were “pretty aggressive on the court” and maintained interaction with their fans through social media, which was a good thing.

Regarding the tournament, Li’s team did not manage to win last year, but the former professional tennis player said she wants to maintain a “happy” attitude for the coming event. “I think this is an important message for all of us because the time is just right after Christmas”, noting that unlike playing other tournaments where players are stressed to achieve good results, being happy to play together and enjoy is also emphasised.

The first of the two-day tournament will see a Captain’s Challenge, two men’s singles and a mixed doubles match, while the following day will feature another Captain’s Challenge, one women’s singles and two men’s singles matches.

Moreover, this year’s tennis masters highlights two themes: “Play. Celebrate. Repeat.”, which will also see fan zones and off-court experiences, and “Women Power” inspired by the tournament’s all-female captain line-up, featuring sessions on the stories and strengths of women in sport.

Tickets are available through platforms such as www.MGM.mo and are priced between 230 patacas and 580 patacas, while two-day passes are priced between 360 to 1,000 patacas. Details are available on www.MGMMacauTennis.com
