The month-long “2025 Ferreira de Almeida Festival” in São Lázaro district was launched on Saturday.

“The event aims to promote the preservation of local customs and traditional culture,” according to Kelvin So (蘇冠忠), chairman of the organising committee

During the opening ceremony on Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro (瘋堂斜巷), So noted that the event has now reached its 11th edition, adding that this year’s event features collaborations with several artists and integrates the performing arts, cultural and creative design, and community culture.

The event, according to So, aims to attract both local residents and tourists to explore the old district, experience the unique charm of Macau’s neighbourhoods, and promote the preservation of local customs and traditional culture.

The event, according to the Macau Government Tourism Office’s (MGTO) official website, is organised by the Creative Industries Promotion Association of St. Lazarus Church District and sponsored by MGTO.

One of the events, a market titled “Crazy Carnival,” concluded on Sunday. The organisers told the Post that the two-day event on Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro attracted a daily average of around 2,000 visitors.

According to a statement released during the opening ceremony on Saturday, the market featured street performances, including mobile acts such as music, dance, and magic shows.

The statement said that the market also showcased street installations reflecting the different characteristics of Macau’s neighbourhoods, around 40 cultural and creative art stalls, thematic workshops, and an interactive game zone.

The statement underlined that the market further incorporated Macau Grand Prix (MGP) themed elements, which aimed to promote the MGP and revitalise the special atmosphere of the district.

Angela Lao En-yu, founder of ANWACLAY, told the Post that she collaborates with her mother and their team to create stop-motion animations combined with 2D techniques.

Lao said they have produced works like “Fun Clay”, an English-language animated series and clay art targeting children aged between six and nine.

According to Lao, the content is often inspired by pets and incorporates local Macau aspects. She also said she plans to expand their creations to different age groups in future, continue to participate in local markets and promote stop motion animation art.
