A female nurse from the Chinese mainland was arrested on Friday for stealing beauty products valued at 1,084 patacas from a shop, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Lai identified the suspect as a nurse in her thirties, surnamed Wang.
According to Lai, the police received a theft report on July 29 from the employee of a shop in a resort in Cotai, who discovered during an inventory check that several boxes of beauty products, valued at 1,084 patacas, were missing from the shelves. After reviewing the shop’s surveillance system, the employee discovered that a woman had taken two boxes of beauty products on June 13 and three boxes on July 28, leaving the shop without paying.
Through their citywide CCTV surveillance system and the shop’s camera footage, the police identified Wang as the suspect and apprehended her on Friday at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge checkpoint. Under questioning, Wang admitted to stealing the beauty products out of greed, and claimed that she had used all the stolen products.
Wang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge.
