The Public Security Police (PSP) received a report yesterday of a traffic accident involving a Judiciary Police (PJ) passenger van that collided with a TCM public bus on Estrada do Canal dos Patos (鴨涌馬路), resulting in six passengers on the bus being injured, according to a statement released by PSP yesterday.
An initial investigation suggested the accident was caused by the driver of the PJ van failing to stop at a give-way sign, and the driver will be punished accordingly, the statement said.
The statement noted that six individuals on the public bus sustained minor injuries in the incident, comprising three men and three women (the male bus driver and five passengers), aged between 35 and 77. The injuries sustained were to their heads, backs and legs; they were all taken to the private Kiang Wu (KW) Hospital for treatment.
The statement pointed out that the two drivers involved in the incident are a local male in his 60s driving the PJ van and a local male public bus driver in his 30s, with both testing negative for alcohol.
According to a separate statement released by the Judiciary Police yesterday, PJ officers went to Kiang Wu Hospital and expressed their regret to the injured passengers. The statement also said that the Judiciary Police will closely follow up on the passengers’ medical treatment and subsequent matters, as well as provide necessary assistance and support.
The statement added that the Judiciary Police always pursue a responsible attitude, adhere to the principle of fairness and fully cooperate with the traffic accident investigation, adding that they attach great importance to the case and will handle it in a serious manner.
Meanwhile, relevant PJ departments and personnel have been instructed to conduct an in-depth review of the incident, strengthen safe driving awareness to prevent similar accidents from happening again, and comprehensively review the relevant procedures and mechanisms, aiming to optimise internal management and improve service quality, the statement said.
