A new dance theatre production titled “Selfish Selfie” will be presented from November 14 to 16 at the Macao Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Black Box II, according to a recent statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC).
The piece is a selected project of the IC’s “Commissioning Performing Arts Productions 2024-2026” programme. Directed by local choreographer Alexis Kam (金曉霖) and produced by the Lam Dance Theatre, the work explores a realm where artificial intelligence (AI) intersects with dance, the statement said.
The performance, described in the statement as delving into a “narcissistic, occasionally absurd world,” depicts the distortion and rebirth of various personas. It aims to challenge the audience to discern reality from virtuality in an era dominated by social media, the statement noted.
The production is a collaboration between Kam, Beijing-based choreographer Dynamic Wang (aka Wang Quanqing), and a local cast of actors and dancers.
Tickets for the five scheduled performances have been on sale since September 28 via the Enjoy Macao Ticketing, Damai and Maoyan platforms, with various discounts available, according to the statement. Further information can be found on the IC’s official website.
