Registration is now open for the “15th National Games” Macau-wide English Speech Contest, organised by Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), according to a statement provided by the public university.
The event, now in its 24th year, is being held to coincide with the joint hosting of the 15th National Games hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau. The statement noted that the upcoming contest will also serve as the Macau regional round for the “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Competition. All primary, secondary, and university students in Macau are invited to compete.
The statement said the competition aims to “enhance participants’ English communication skills, logical thinking, and public speaking abilities, providing a platform for local youth interested in language, culture, and international exchange to showcase their talents.”
The statement outlined the specific themes for each category. For the University Category, the topic is “The value of volunteering for the 15th National Games.” The Senior High Category will address “The 15th National Games and Macao,” while the Junior High Category topic is “How schools can encourage students to do more sport.”
Meanwhile, for younger students, the Upper Primary Category will discuss “The benefits of doing sport,” and the Lower Primary Category will speak on “The sport I like the most.”.
The Preliminary Round is slated to be held on October 11 at the MPU–Bell Centre of English, with the Final to be held on November 1 in the MPU Auditorium. Participants in the Primary and High School Categories will be selected by their respective schools. The University Category is open to all full-time undergraduate students in Macau, who can submit their application via an online registration system.
The registration deadline for the University Category is next Wednesday, September 17, while the deadline for primary and high school categories is next Friday, September 19. Further details can be found on the official contest website: https://speechcontest.mpu.edu.mo/.
