The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Macau (UM) hosted the 2025 Health Sciences Summer Camp last week, welcoming over 80 outstanding students from 19 top-tier mainland Chinese universities to foster and stimulate participants’ interest in academic exchange and research, according to a UM statement.

According to the statement, the camp was held in two phases to promote collaboration and broaden students’ exposure to biomedical research.

The first phase welcomed around 50 participants from partner institutions such as Beijing Normal University and Zhejiang University, while the second phase selected 30 students from nearly 200 applicants across renowned institutions like Sun Yat-sen University and Wuhan University, the statement highlighted.

The statement said that during the opening ceremony, FHS Dean Deng, aka Deng Chuxia, encouraged students to pursue knowledge with curiosity and purpose, highlighting the camp as a platform for academic growth.

Meanwhile, the statement added that FHS Associate Dean Shen Hanming and Assistant Dean Di Lijun presented the faculty’s academic and research strengths, while Assistant Professor Chen Qiang outlined the camp schedule, as well as representatives from the UM Graduate School also introducing postgraduate programmes and application procedures.

Throughout the camp, students participated in lab visits, faculty discussions, and cultural activities, with several expressing strong interest in UM’s research environment. According to Zhang Hengxi from Zhejiang University and Sun Zhaochu from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the experience influenced their academic aspirations and interest in applying to UM for further studies, the statement noted.

The statement concluded that during the closing ceremony, FHS Associate Deans Shen Hanming and Xu Renhe presented completion certificates and encouraged students to continue striving for excellence and consider UM for postgraduate education.
