The "2025 International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao" was unveiled at Macao Fisherman's Wharf today, featuring over 100 food booths from across the globe and other activities open to the public.

According to the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the event's organizer, the culinary festival has three major highlights – "International Gastronomy Promenade," "City of Gastronomy Showcase," and "International Gastronomy Forum, Macao." A total of 1,000 seats are being provided at five catering zones.

In particular, the "City of Gastronomy Showcase" brings together acclaimed chefs from 29 UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy to demonstrate culinary arts in over 60 sessions, the tourism office noted. Macanese gastronomy, listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage in 2021, was showcased in the first session today.

Macanese cookery is a Portuguese-Asian fusion cuisine. It is reputed to be one of the world's oldest West-East cross-cultural cuisines, consisting of Portuguese, Malay, Chinese, Indian and African ingredients and recipes.

MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said at the opening ceremony that in tandem with the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) government’s development strategy for appropriate economic diversification, the "2025 International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao" now takes the center stage to tell the unique stories of the SAR's culinary landscape, promoting the city's status as a world center of tourism and leisure.

The culinary event is "a prime example of how Creative Cities can come together to exchange, showcase, and celebrate their culinary and cultural traditions," said Secretary of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network Denise Bax by video link.

The event runs till July 20.
