The Personal Data Protection Bureau (PDPB) announced in a statement yesterday that the International Data Spaces Association* (IDSA) visited its premises on Wednesday and recognised its efforts to protect personal data.
The statement said that IDSA is a global nonprofit organisation that promotes secure, sovereign, and standardised data exchange in a trusted ecosystem. It develops and governs the International Data Spaces (IDS) framework, which enables businesses and organisations to share and exchange data while maintaining control over their usage.
According to the statement, IDSA Chairman Reinhold Achatz** and his delegation visited the bureau on Wednesday to present the association’s global applications and development progress, while discussing with senior PDPB officials prospects for advancing data space initiatives and challenges in global digital data management.
The statement said that during the meeting PDPB Director Yang Chongwei introduced his bureau’s work in monitoring, coordinating, and promoting Macau’s Personal Data Protection Law, while highlighting how the association’s framework for open, secure and trustworthy data spaces and trust mechanisms offers valuable insights and practical approaches for the bureau’s data governance initiatives.
Achatz said, according to the statement, that the deep integration of the global digital economy has made setting up interoperable, secure data ecosystems and cross-border data exchange technologies pivotal for driving digital economic growth and innovation.
He was also quoted as saying that as a leading organisation in advancing international data spaces and standard-setting, the IDSA places high priority on collaboration with global privacy regulators, aiming to facilitate secure, compliant cross-border data flows through trusted technical solutions while adhering to diverse jurisdictional requirements for personal data protection.
The statement said that both the PDPB and the IDSA were committed to sustained collaboration, enhanced communication, and joint efforts to establish secure and trustworthy data ecosystems in their shared priority areas.
