Local artist Jane Ng Sok Chan is tackling the topic of her different identities at a solo exhibition titled “Diligently”, which kicked off at the Rui Cunha Foundation (FRC) gallery on Tuesday evening.

Through around 20 recently-created works such as oils, acrylics and collages, Ng shares her reflections on her different identities, along with their subsequent responsibilities, that she juggles in life. Whether that is being a mother, a daughter, teacher, and a housewife, exhibitiongoers will gain insights into her life, along with the strength and resilience of modern women, through the paintings, an artform which she describes as a source of refuge when things become overwhelming, as well as for self-healing and expression.

Moreover, at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, it was noted during the artist’s introduction that Ng hopes to convey her spiritual journey when navigating through her different identities within herself. And she does exactly that through a series of paintings, among which are “Bound for Love”, a record of Ng’s intimate journey in motherhood, a role that she values greatly regardless of its challenges, and the “We Need a Break” series that reflects her struggles as she learns more about the world.

Ng is an artist who has exhibited her works around the world, while they have also been selected for exhibitions and competitions, according to a statement provided by FRC gallery on Tuesday. She lived in the US from 2016-2021 where she took part in joint exhibitions. She went on to establish NUMBER FIVE STUDIO upon returning to Macau in 2021, the statement said. She is active in the fields of art education and painting creation.

Her works are on display until July 19. One can admire them from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, as well as from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. More details can also be found on the gallery’s website and Facebook page.
