The 2nd Galaxy Entertainment Group Macao International Shorts Film Festival is now accepting submissions for its “Macao Shorts” section, according to a statement issued by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) on Friday.

Local filmmakers have until July 21 to submit their works, with winners eligible for cash prizes of up to 45,000 patacas and trophies, the statement noted.

Co-organised by the bureau and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), the festival will be held in September at venues including Galaxy Cinemas, Galaxy International Convention Centre (GICC), Andaz Macau at Galaxy Macau in Cotai and at Cinematheque•Passion near the Ruins of St Paul’s.

The statement highlighted that the event will feature screenings, lectures by “masters”, workshops, an industry forum, and a red-carpet awards ceremony, with the festival aiming to “establish an international platform for short film exchange” while promoting local talent.

Seasoned filmmakers will also be invited as jury members, as well as to host workshops and present the industry forum, the statement said.

The statement added that five screening sections will be showcased: “Macao Shorts,” “New Voices from Horizon,” “Director in Focus,” “East Asia View,” and “Special Screenings.” Entries for the “Macao Shorts” category will be judged by an International Advisory Committee for the festival, with the films to be screened in competition for the “Macao Unit Award” and “Special Jury Mention”.

Applicants may submit their works in person at the Cultural Affairs Bureau in Praça do Tap Seac (塔石廣場) by 5:45 p.m. on July 21 or via email to MISFF_msfu@icm.gov.mo by 11:59 p.m. the same day. The statement added that the rules and forms are available on the IC website (www.icm.gov.mo) and the Macao Cultural and Creative Industries website (www.macaucci.gov.mo).

For enquiries, one may contact IC staff on 8399 6297 or 8399 6295 during office hours.
