The public Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM) announced in a statement yesterday that it has suspended the M-Mark* product quality certification to the local Ou Seon brand’s 18.9-litre potable water containers supplied by local company Miriam Group Limited.
The statement that CPTTM, in its capacity as the implementing body of the M-Mark Macao Premium Product Certification Scheme, has suspended with immediate effect the M-Mark certification status of Ou Seon (“Pure Macau”) brand purified drinking water products in strict accordance with Article 12 of the Certification Scheme regulations.
The suspension came after the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Friday that the locally bottled water sold by Miriam Group Limited was found to exceed official bacterial standards.
The statement also said that Miriam Group Limited is hereby required to submit a written explanation detailing its quality control failure, along with a corrective action plan, within seven days of yesterday’s notice and develop and present validated corrective and preventive measures for technical review by CPTTM’s Audit Unit within 30 days thereafter.
CPTTM emphasised that the manufacturer’s M-Mark certification can only be conditionally reinstated upon verification of the effectiveness of the implementation of its corrective and preventive measures.
Reportedly, the problematic drinking water was only supplied to public entities, including the Health Bureau (SSM) but not the public hospital and health centres.
*According to a separate statement on the CPTTM website, the “M-Mark” Macao Product Quality Certification Scheme is a voluntary product certification programme for local enterprises in Macau. Certified products have undergone consistent factory audits and product testing to meet specified quality standards. The recognised product categories include food, health supplements, proprietary Chinese medicines, and clothing, among others.
