A mainlander was caught on Wednesday morning for illegal immigration at the local control point of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, according to a statement by the Macau Customs Service yesterday.
The statement identified the suspect as a 45-year-old man.
According to the statement, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday. Customs officers detected a suspicious individual walking along the shore near the southern end of the artificial island of the local control point of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge through the infrared night-vision cameras of the maritime intelligent security system.
Suspecting that the person was engaging in illegal immigration activities, the customs officers rushed to the scene, intercepted the individual, and took him to the customs office at the control point for further investigation.
The suspect has been transferred to the Public Security Police (PSP) Border Control Department, the statement said.
