A TCM bus travelling along Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (commonly known as San Ma Lou); hit a female jaywalker last week, causing her to suffer head injuries – and police fined her for crossing the thoroughfare in a manner that violated traffic regulations.
According to separate statements from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) and the Public Security Police (PSP) on Saturday, the victim-cum-offender is a 35-year-old female from the mainland.
The accident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, after which she was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment. She sustained head injuries, the statements said.
According to the statement, public bus operator TCM explained that at the time of the accident, the Route No. 10 bus was travelling along Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro towards Praça de Ferreira do Amaral. As the bus drove past San Tung Fong Commercial Inn, two female pedestrians suddenly stepped out from between vehicles in the avenue’s opposing lane in violation of traffic rules. The bus driver was unable to brake in time, and the right front side of the bus made contact with one of the female pedestrians.
Both women were fined for breaching the road traffic law.
