A local man was arrested on Tuesday for driving despite his driving ban, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Chi Weng said during a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect surnamed Chang is in his forties. He told the police that he is jobless. Chang was banned from driving from October 2024 until May 2025 due to speeding.

On Tuesday at about 3 p.m. police officers noticed a car entering Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro (瘋堂斜巷), a road with a “No Entry” sign, from Rua de Eduardo Marques (馬忌士街). The police immediately intercepted the car and found that the driver, Chang, was currently subject to a driving ban.

Under questioning, Chang admitted to driving despite the ban, claiming that he needed to use the car for urgent social insurance matters.

According to Wong, Chang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of driving during a driving ban.
