A local middle-aged man has lost 8,900 yuan (9,778 patacas) in a concert ticket scam, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said in a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Leng, the victim met a man from the mainland in May 2023 and exchanged WeChat IDs with him. The victim saw his post on WeChat moments about a concert in the mainland in July 2024. He was interested in the concert and contacted the man, offering to buy two tickets from him.

The victim transferred 8,900 yuan to the suspect for the “tickets” through an online payment in June 2024. The suspect told the victim that the concert had been rescheduled for January 26, 2025 and promised to give him the “tickets” before that day. Before the concert, the suspect kept coming up with different excuses as to why he didn’t have the “tickets” yet.

As the victim did not receive any tickets for the concert, he suspected he had been scammed and reported the case to the police on Friday.

The police are investigating the case.
