Renovations of the interior of Grand Lisboa casino-hotel are set to start this year, with the project expected to be completed over a two-year period, SJM Resorts Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu Fung told reporters yesterday.
Ho made the remarks on the sidelines of yesterday’s Dragon Boat Launching Ceremony at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre.
Ho noted that the renovation project, which is set to take place in phases, will not affect the operations of the peninsula-based property. The renovations will benefit both its restaurants and hotel rooms, she said.
Moreover, regarding the company’s overall performance during the mainland’s May Day Golden Week holiday, Ho said it was “good” despite the rainy weather.
Ho also remarked that the gaming market share of Grand Lisboa Palace (GLP) in Cotai was not likely to achieve its five percent target this year, but the company would do its best to increase its market share in the quarters ahead. Foot traffic at the integrated resort has also been growing, Ho said, adding she hopes that it will continue to improve with the opening of new retail outlet openings, promotions and events.
Dragon boat races take place from June 8 to 10
The “2024 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races” competition is set to take place at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre from June 8 to 10, with the integrated resort operator having seven teams competing in the event.
Edcer Penetrante, a member of one of SJM’s teams who has been taking part in the races for nearly 20 years, told the Post that their main goal this year is to enter the finals. Having won third place last year, Penetrante said that he and his team would do their best to win gold this time.
Penetrante, who is Filipino, noted that there will be a lot of competitors this year and his team would be paying close attention to each of them. He added that even though he and his team only practise for an hour each day, they make the most of their time and optimise their training.
