The temperature reached 31 degrees Celsius at “Big Taipa Hill” station yesterday afternoon, breaking Macau’s previous March record of 29.8 degrees set on March 19, 2008, according to a statement by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG).

Yesterday’s SMG statement noted that the temperature of 31 degrees recorded yesterday was the highest temperature in March since the bureau was established in 1952.

The statement added that yesterday’s weather was generally sunny with few clouds under the influence of a weak northeast monsoon.

The statement quoted the “State of the Global Climate 2023” report released by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) on March 19 as pointing out that 2023 was the hottest year on record, adding that due to global warming, extreme weather was expected to continue and there was a chance that high temperature records will be broken again in the future.

Meanwhile, according to the local observatory’s forecast, today’s weather will be cloudy with brief periods of sunshine. The mercury was expected to range between 22 and 27 degrees.
