Macau airport operator CAM announced in a statement yesterday that the traffic at the local airport last month was over 551,000 passengers, with over 4,000 aircraft movements, marking a month-on-month increase of about 28 percent and 10 percent respectively, indicating that the airport’s passenger movement has “recovered steadily”.

According to the statement, the daily average number of inbound and outbound passengers reached 17,000 with 129 daily flight movements on average last month.

Compared with the same period of pre-pandemic 2019, the statement said, the number of aircraft movements recovered by 58 percent, while the number of passengers recovered by about 60 percent.

The statement noted that the number of passengers on the mainland China routes accounted for 53 percent of the local airport’s total passenger volume, while passengers on international routes accounted for 29 percent.

CAM said in the statement that it has been expanding more routes and increasing frequencies during the summer holiday to provide more options for travellers.

Meanwhile, the statement said, CAM is also working with airlines on the resumption of more air services and expanding the international market, as well as cooperating with the local tourism sector in promoting more medium- and long-haul routes such as Indonesia, aiming to attract more foreign tourists to Macau and facilitate economic development.
