The Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) announced in a statement yesterday that a new ferry route between Macau’s Taipa Ferry Terminal in Pac On and Guishan Island in Zhuhai will start operating on Saturday, providing two round-trip ferry services per day every weekend.

According to the statement, the new ferry route will be run by the locally registered Yuet Tung Shipping Company Limited which was established in 1962.

The statement underlined that the bureau has assisted the shipping company in carrying out the preparatory work, including sea and berthing trials and inspections of the route’s vessels.

Meanwhile, according to a statement by the shipping company published on its official WeChat account yesterday, the first ferry link will depart from Taipa at 10:10 a.m. and the second at 5 p.m., with the voyage taking about 40 minutes. The return trips from Guishan Island will leave at 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Guishan Island lies some 30 kilometre east of Macau.

The around 10-square-kilometre island is inhabited by several thousand people living in two settlements there, according to Wikipedia.
