The Judiciary Police (PJ) have arrested a Tanzanian man, who has a local criminal record, for drug trafficking and have seized 91.52 grammes of cocaine and 2.94 grammes of methamphetamine (aka ice) from him, with an estimated street value of 310,000 patacas, PJ spokesman Chan Wun Man said at a special press conference yesterday.

The 30-year-old suspect surnamed Karim told the police he’s jobless. He had been sentenced to 11 years in prison for drug trafficking in Macau and was released earlier this year.

Chan said that based on a tip-off the Judiciary Police had received recently, claiming that an African man was selling drugs in nightclubs in the northern district, PJ officers identified Karim and intercepted him in Avenida de Venceslau de Morais on Tuesday, and when they searched him found 4.41 grammes of cocaine.

Upon searching Karim’s flat in the northern district, police officers seized 87.11 grammes of cocaine and 2.94 grammes ice.

Karim refused to cooperate with the police, Chan said.

The Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation in an attempt to trace the origin of the drugs and other possible suspects.

Karim was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a drug trafficking charge, according to Chan.
