Registration for the 2nd Annual Macau-wide English Essay Competition themed “An Inclusive World” has started, empowering youngsters to “embrace diversity and inclusion”, according to a statement by the Macau Professional Speaking Association (MPSA).

The competition, the statement noted, invites local upper primary, secondary, and undergraduate college students aged between 10 and 25 to submit an essay reflecting on the theme. It also promotes the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The 68 winning essays will be published in an essay collection to “embrace the voices of student stakeholders in [civil] society and initiate a wider discussion about building a more sustainable and resilient future together”, the statement pointed out.

Competition Chair Sandy Leong (梁嘉怡) was quoted by the statement as saying that “student voices are vital to our community.” She also added that “as agents of change, it is more important than ever to include them in the discussion of our collective future, empower them with skills and confidence, and encourage them to transform their ideas into actionable projects so we can all enjoy an inclusive world.”

The competition has the support of SDSN Youth Hong Kong and the United Nations University Institute in Macau, which are its supervisor and advisor respectively.
