The Judiciary Police (PJ) are investigating an incident in which a local male student was slightly injured at a school in the northern district yesterday, after claims circulated online alleging that a student had set a fire and attacked someone with a knife, PJ spokesman Cheong Kim Fong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Cheong, police received a report around noon concerning an injury case at a school in the northern district. The injured student was taken to hospital for treatment and was discharged after receiving medical attention.
Cheong said that officers found no evidence of arson in the incident.
At the time of the press conference, the Judiciary Police had not yet obtained further details about the student’s injuries, age, the identity of the alleged attacker, or the circumstances surrounding the incident, Cheong said, adding that the case remained under investigation.
Meanwhile, the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) said in a statement it had been notified of the incident and immediately sent officials to hold an emergency meeting with the school. The bureau said the school provided immediate treatment and accompanied the injured student to the hospital.
The bureau added that it was highly concerned about the incident and would coordinate with the school and counselling organisations to provide support to the student and his family.
It also confirmed that the incident did not involve arson and has been referred to the PJ for investigation.
