Integrated resort operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) donated 1.0 million patacas to the Macao University of Tourism Development Foundation (UTMDF) during a donation agreement signing ceremony held at the public university’s Taipa campus yesterday.
The event is the second in a series of donation ceremonies with integrated tourism and leisure enterprises.
The donation, according to a UTM statement yesterday, aims to support UTM’s academic development and institutional advancement, including “optimising the learning environment, enhancing teaching and research quality, and expanding international cooperation”.
The donation agreement was signed by UTMDF Executive Committee Chair Cheung Kin Chung and GEG Director Philip Cheng Yee Sing.
In his speech, Cheung, as summarised by the statement, highlighted that GEG has “long been committed to corporate social responsibility”. He added that the donation will “further deepen the strategic university-enterprise collaboration. It is expected to integrate industrial resources into teaching, translate academic research into benefits for the industry, facilitate the exchange of knowledge, talent and industrial resources, and achieve a win‑win scenario covering talent cultivation, talent pooling and industrial advancement”.
GEG Director Cheng was quoted by the statement as saying: “Through this donation of 1.0 million patacas to the UTMDF, GEG hopes to support UTM in enhancing its teaching and research capabilities, expanding international exchanges, and cultivating more outstanding professionals who can meet the evolving needs of the industry, thereby contributing talent-driven momentum to Macau’s development as a ‘World Centre of Tourism and Leisure’.”
