Statement by Macao SAR Government, November 6, 2026, 10:56 a.m.
The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region respects and supports the ruling delivered today by the MSAR courts in accordance with the law regarding the first case involving a violation of Macao’s Law on Safeguarding National Security.
The Criminal Chamber of the Lower Court adjudicated and delivered its judgment on Macao’s first national security case independently and in accordance with the law, fully safeguarding the legitimate rights of the defendants and other litigation participants. The SAR Government calls on all sectors of society to respect the court’s ruling, support the judicial organs in exercising their judicial power in accordance with the law, and uphold judicial fairness and the tradition of the rule of law.
Safeguarding national security is the constitutional responsibility of the M SAR. The MSAR Government’s stance on safeguarding national security, respecting judicial independence, and defending the rule of law is firm, steadfast, and unshakeable. Moving forward, the MSAR Government will continue to strictly enforce Macao’s Law on Safeguarding National Security, prevent, suppress, and punish acts endangering national security in accordance with the law, and continuously deepen education on national security and the rule of law. This will further strengthen the MSAR’s line of defence in safeguarding national security, protect Macao’s long-term prosperity and stability as well as the fundamental interests of the public, and ensure the steady and sustained implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle with Macao characteristics.
