The private Macau University of Science and Technology’s (MUST) independently developed “WeMust” smart campus platform was recognised with a first-place award in the Excellence in Digital Community Engagement category at the 2026 Sharjah Government Communication Awards during the prize-giving ceremony on Monday in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to a statement from the university yesterday, the prize recognises projects that “use digital technologies and innovative approaches to strengthen communication, foster community participation and create positive social impact”.
MUST’s winning project provides “personalised services tailored to the needs of students and faculty, supporting the entire student journey from admission to graduation”, thereby enabling access to “comprehensive teaching and research services around the clock, wherever they are in the world”.
The achievement makes MUST the first institution from China to receive the SGCA award, the statement said, with MUST Vice-President Tong Ka Lok, who leads the planning of WeMust, accepting the award. The statement added that it represents “strong international recognition of WeMust’s achievements in government communication and digital public services”.
The two other nominees for the category were projects from the US’ Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences Cognitive Aesthetics Media Lab (FAS CAMLab) and Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), the statement added.
The statement said that the Sharjah Government Communication Award marked its 13th edition. This year, it saw 433 submissions ranging from government entities to businesses in 31 countries across four continents advancing to the evaluation stage.
