The Charity Fund from the Readers of Macao Daily News held a press conference yesterday at Federal Restaurant in Zape to announce that its annual Walk for a Million will be held on December 13.

According to a statement released during the press conference, the starting point will be set up in front of Kun Iam Statue on Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen (孫逸仙大馬路), with the route following Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van (西灣湖景大馬路) to the finishing point in front of A-Ma Temple. The route is approximately three kilometres long, and walking the entire distance at a leisurely pace takes about one hour, the statement said.

Tina Ho Teng Iat, chairwoman of the fund, said that in response to Macau’s ageing population and the diverse living needs of low-income families, the charitable foundation will continue to focus on residents’ needs and pay attention to the practical difficulties faced by vulnerable groups, weaving a tighter social safety net for public welfare. The fund will continue to increase investment across various charitable areas – including poverty alleviation, emergency relief, care for the elderly, and educational support and talent cultivation – so that every contribution of goodwill is put to concrete use and directly reaches every Macau resident in need, Ho said.

According to the statement, as in previous years, the registration fees for the charity walk are as follows:  10 patacas for student participants; 50 patacas for individual participants; 2,000 patacas for community associations and government bodies taking part with groups of 40 each, plus 50 patacas for each additional person; and 3,000 patacas for corporate sponsors participating with groups of 30 each, plus 50 patacas for each additional person.
