The three-day 16th China (Macao) International Automobile Exposition at the Venetian Macao Cotai Expo concluded on Sunday, rolling out nearly 400 new models from over 100 car and motorcycle brands, including Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC Group) flagship models, the ALL-NEW E8, AION i60, and AION N60.

The 3-day event featured new-energy vehicles alongside European, Japanese, and South Korean marques.

Speaking on the sidelines of a launch ceremony on Friday, GAC International Deputy General Manager Wang Shunsheng highlighted Macau’s strategic role as a core window for GAC Group’s layout across both the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and overseas markets, adding that the GAC Group stands as the only Chinese automotive brand to have participated in the Macau automobile expo for 16 consecutive years.

According to Wang, his company has successfully leveraged Macau as a springboard to enter Portuguese-speaking country markets such as Portugal and Brazil, driving smooth progress in its international expansion.

Meanwhile, the company remains dedicated to serving local users. In response to the “Northbound Travel for Macau Vehicles” policy and Macau’s unique road conditions, GAC has introduced tailored vehicle models to facilitate seamless cross-border self-driving trips between Macau and the Chinese mainland.

According to a statement by GAC Group released on Friday, the company achieved a 113 percent year-on-year sales increase in the first quarter of this year, marking a major milestone in its localised market presence, adding that sales in September grew by 34 percent month-on-month in the Portugal market, and sales surged by a 280 percent year-on-year in the Brazil market.

Wang added that GAC Group will continue to rely on the Macau platform to strengthen ties with Portuguese-speaking countries, further explore their markets, and expand its brand market share across these countries.

Wang noted that electric vehicles (EVs) offer high cost-effectiveness in Hong Kong and Macau, prompting a gradual consumer transition from traditional petrol vehicles to EVs. As local charging infrastructure continues to improve, the growth potential for electric vehicles remains substantial, he said, adding that, in line with this trend, GAC Group plans to actively participate in the development of the charging and energy network across Hong Kong and Macau.
