The Nurses Association of Macau (NAOM) held a press conference at the New Orient Landmark Hotel in Zape on Saturday to announce a series of activities to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
According to the group’s Chairwoman Che Sio Ieng, the association was founded in 1986 and has consistently upheld its mission of uniting nurses across Macau, safeguarding nurses’ legitimate rights and interests, promoting the recognition of nursing qualifications, and laying a solid foundation for the profession’s development - thereby establishing the groundwork for the professionalisation of nursing in Macau. She also noted that membership has grown from just over 200 at the time of its founding to more than 1,000 today, accounting for 40 per cent of Macau’s total number of nurses.
This year marks the association’s 40th anniversary, and to celebrate, according to Che, NAOM has organised a series of events since the beginning of the year.
The celebrations to be held this month include today’s general meeting of the association, a thematic seminar, and a celebratory dinner. Tomorrow and Thursday, the association will host the 24th “ICN Asia Workforce Forum” organised by the International Council of Nurses (ICN), and on Friday, the 20th “Alliance of Asian Nurses Associations”, according to Che. She added that the association will establish a dedicated WeChat official account platform, keeping pace with the times by creating an efficient centre for information dissemination, member management, and brand building.
