A young and a middle-aged man have reported losing a combined total of about 140,000 patacas in two separate nude-chat extortion scams, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Cheong Un Hong said yesterday.

According to Cheong, in the first case, the non-local victim met a woman on the social media platform X, previously branded Twitter, at around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday before moving their conversation to Telegram. The woman offered sexual favours and sent him an unknown mobile application to install. After granting the app access to his phone, the victim engaged in a nude video chat with the woman for several seconds.

The woman then claimed to have secretly recorded the video and stolen the victim’s contacts, text messages, and photos. She threatened to send the footage to his family and friends unless he paid her, Cheong said.

Fearing exposure, the victim transferred 50,000 yuan (60,620 patacas) to two mainland Chinese bank accounts provided by the woman and paid another 20,000 yuan via WeChat. She continued demanding money, and he transferred a further 30,000 yuan. Unable to pay more, he reported the case to the Judiciary Police at around 10:00 p.m. that day, reporting a total loss of 100,000 yuan, equivalent to about 120,000 patacas, Cheong said.

In the second case, a middle-aged local man met a woman on social media at around 10:00 p.m. on Monday and engaged in a nude video chat lasting about two minutes after midnight the following day, according to Cheong.

The woman subsequently sent him the video and his phone contacts, demanding 5,800 yuan to delete the material and threatening to share it with his family and friends if he refused. The victim transferred money using an Alipay QR code she provided, but she continued demanding payments. He eventually paid a total of 20,000 patacas before reporting the case to the Judiciary Police, after being unable to pay any more.
