The Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) yesterday held a themed lecture aimed at helping seniors raise their cybersecurity awareness and be vigilant against telecom scams.

The lecture was held at Caritas Macau’s Areia Preta Catholic Pastoral Centre, gathering around 60 seniors from “Kei Hong Lok Yuen” (耆康樂園), according to a statement by the bureau yesterday.

Aside from hearing about scam cases targeting seniors and practical tips, attendees were updated on the city’s current cybersecurity situation, the importance of real-name registration for SIM cards, as well as reminders not to register SIM Cards on behalf of others or resell their registered SIM Cards to avoid being used by criminals.

The bureau reiterated their commitment on conducting related activities for the public, highlighting that it will “continue to engage with the community and carry out anti-scam promotional activities for key target groups, in order to raise their awareness and strengthen cybersecurity defence”.

Meanwhile, according to data on Macau’s January–September 2026 crime statistics recently announced through the Government Information Bureau (GCS), the combined number of reported phone scams and online fraud cases stood at 385, a year-on-year decrease of 39.1 percent.
