The Judiciary Police (PJ) opened a new station in Taipa yesterday, inaugurated by Secretary for Security Chan Tsz King and PJ Director Sit Chong Meng.

The Judiciary Police, headquartered on Avenida da Amizade (友誼大馬路) on the peninsula in Zape, have also been operating a station in Cotai - located opposite the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Lotus Station. The newly opened station, the first one in Taipa, is located on the first floor of the Hung Fat Garden (鴻發花園) residential estate - located opposite the Altira Macau casino-hotel.

The operational launch of the new station was announced in a PJ statement yesterday. The government did not invite the media to cover yesterday’s inauguration ceremony.

Like the crime-reporting station at the headquarters on the peninsula, the newly opened crime-reporting station in Taipa operates 24/7.

The new facility is officially named the Case Reporting and Emergency Operation Centre (Taipa Sub-station).

Delivering a speech during yesterday’s inauguration ceremony, according to the statement, Sit noted that central Taipa currently has the highest population among all the official statistical districts in Macau, while also housing the largest number of non-resident workers (NRWs). Consequently, the demand for public services, including policing, has increased significantly.

According to the Statistics and Census Bureau’s (DSEC) 2021 Population Census – the latest available census – the central Taipa district had a population of 75,689 at that time, making it the highest among all districts and accounting for 11.1 percent of Macau’s total population of 682,070.

Sit said that in recent years, the number of public parks, schools, banks, and major shopping malls in Taipa has grown steadily, serving as key venues for residents’ daily routines and weekend leisure. Taipa Village is also a popular tourist spot drawing heavy foot traffic. Given these evolving economic activities in Taipa, public security and crime prevention efforts face increasingly higher demands, Sit said.

Yesterday’s statement underlined the Judiciary Police’s commitment to carrying out its policing duties for the benefit of the public. To better meet public needs regarding crime reporting and public order – and to promote policing services that are more accessible and community outreach that is closer to citizens – the Judiciary Police initiated preparations last year to set up the Taipa Sub-station, the statement said.

The statement said that members of the public can visit the new station in person at any time whenever necessary to report crimes, provide crime leads, or seek professional police advice.

The statement also said that the new Taipa Sub-station will serve as an important base for the Judiciary Police to strengthen its presence across Taipa, Coloane, and Cotai to promote its anti-scam initiatives. Specifically, the PJ Anti-fraud Coordination Centre has also set up its facilities in the new station, taking full advantage of its geographical proximity to various higher education institutions and large-scale casino-hotel resorts in the area. On the one hand, this significantly reduces travel time, favourably boosting anti-scam efforts in the area; while on the other hand, it provides greater convenience in supplying local partners with the latest anti-scam promotional materials, allowing anti-fraud campaigns to cover the community more effectively, the statement said.

The Public Security Police Force (PSP) operate numerous stations across the city - on the peninsula, as well as in Taipa and Coloane.
