The launch ceremony for the Huawei ICT Competition 2026/2027 in Macau took place yesterday, with the aim of solidifying participants’ professional foundations and cultivating a more competitive pool of local digital technology talent to empower the diversified growth of Macau’s Information Technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) industry.

ICT stands for Information and Communications Technology.

This year’s competition, themed “Connecting the Glorious Future”, officially opened for registration yesterday until November 15. The launch ceremony was held at the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM) headquarters in Zape.

Huawei (Macau) General Manager Leong Ka Cheong said that the Macau event will run from October to December across three stages: the Macau regional competition, the Asia-Pacific regional competition, and the global finals. Participating teams in the Higher Education Group will compete in two classic tracks – Network and Computing.

Leong noted that the competition topics closely align with industry trends and cutting-edge technologies, including foundational software (openEuler, openGauss, and Kunpeng applications*), network communications, and cybersecurity.

Leong went on to say that building upon the existing Cloud track, the secondary school group has added a brand-new AI Innovation Track this year, encouraging high school students to solve real-world problems with AI technology and inspiring technological innovation among youth.

According to a CPTTM statement yesterday, in the previous edition, contestants from the University of Macau (UM) swept the championships in both the Network and Computing tracks, successfully advancing to the Asia-Pacific Regional Finals. This achievement fully demonstrated the solid strength and potential of Macau’s youth in the ICT field, while strengthening the confidence of the three co-organisers in empowering local youth to step onto the international stage, the statement added.

CPTTM President Victoria Alexa Kuan Chan noted in her speech that from foundational ICT training to driving initiatives such as “AI in Schools” and launching the “Innovative Computing Power Training Pilot Scheme,” her centre step-by-step empowers the general public to master the knowledge and skills required in the era of the digital economy and artificial intelligence.
