A Public Security Police Force (PSP) spokesman confirmed to the Post yesterday evening that a scooter rider and his pillion rider were injured after a lorry ran a red light.

According to the spokesman, the rider is a 65-year-old local male resident, the pillion rider is a 62-year-old local female resident, and the lorry driver is a local male resident in his 70s.

A Fire Services Bureau (CB) spokesman confirmed to the Post that the rider suffered abrasions to his elbows and knees, while the pillion rider suffered abrasions to her elbows and a head contusion. Both were rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre (CHSCJ) for treatment.

At around 12:59 p.m. yesterday, the Public Security Police Force issued a statement saying it had received a report of a traffic accident at the junction of Avenida 1º de Maio (勞動節大馬路) and Rua de Ma Kau Seak (馬交石街).

Upon arriving at the scene, PSP officers saw a scooter that had been knocked onto the ground by a lorry, with both the rider and pillion rider thrown onto the road. An investigation revealed that the lorry had run a red light and struck the scooter, the spokesman said, adding that the lorry driver passed a breathalyser test.

According to the spokesman, the lorry driver has been fined for jumping a red light.

Under Article 99 of Macau’s Road Traffic Law, running a red light carries a fine ranging between 1,000 patacas and 5,000 patacas.
