A local worker was injured after falling from a height of six metres while repairing lighting equipment at the airport’s terminal building yesterday, according to statements from the Public Security Police Force (PSP) and the Fire Services Bureau (CB).

Airport operator CAM confirmed in a statement yesterday that the accident occurred near the public bus stop outside the terminal building in the early hours of yesterday.

According to the PSP and CB statements, the worker, a 42-year-old local man, suffered a fracture in his right arm. He was not in a life-threatening condition following emergency treatment at the hospital.

The CAM statement said that the worker, an employee of an outsourced service contractor, accidentally fell while repairing equipment.

Yesterday evening’s CAM statement said that the worker was in stable condition at the hospital.

The statement said that although the worker is not a CAM employee, the airport operator has always regarded operational safety as the top priority of its operational management. After the accident, CAM immediately contacted the relevant outsourced service contractor to gain a full understanding of the incident and requested the contractor to thoroughly identify and eliminate safety hazards at the workplace.

CAM has ordered the contractor to suspend all similar maintenance and repair work, strengthen safety training for frontline workers, review existing safety protection mechanisms, and strictly implement improvement measures, the statement underlined.
