The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), along with 14 local organisations, will host “Animal Protection Fun Day” (“動物保護同樂日”) on Sunday, October 4, in Praça do Tap Siac, featuring pet-friendly activities, games, workshops and performances to raise public awareness of animal welfare and promote adoption over purchasing, according to an IAM statement on Wednesday.
The statement said that the event will run from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and feature a dedicated pet play area, a pet obedience competition and sessions by dog trainers, allowing pets and their owners to take part in activities and exchange pet-care experiences.
Pet owners can also make paw-print artwork with their pets and take instant family photographs together, the statement noted.
Stage programmes will include magic and dance performances, as well as a music session featuring animal-themed songs during the evening, the statement said, adding that the activities aim to promote the message that mutual companionship between people and pets can benefit physical and mental wellbeing.
An animal adoption information area will also be set up, alongside a rabies vaccination service, the statement underlined, noting that pet owners can make appointments through the Macao One Account to receive free vaccination at the event.
The opening ceremony will feature a police dog skills demonstration, showcasing the abilities of K-9s, the statement said. The bureau and local organisations will also organise prize-winning booth games featuring information on the Animal Protection Law and pet-keeping knowledge, the statement pointed out.
Moreover, animal-themed drawing and handicraft workshops will also be available for families and members of the public. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The bureau previously joined the Everyone Stray Dogs Macau Volunteer Group and the Macau Photographic Society (PSM) to organise the “Animal Protection and Healthy Companionship” photography competition, promoting animal protection and healthy relationships between people and animals, the statement said, adding that winning entries from the competition will be displayed and an award ceremony will be held during the Animal Protection Fun Day, with the public welcome to attend and view the works.
