The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) sent its first cross-sector delegation to Shanghai on Monday to observe the 48th WorldSkills Competition and exchange views on vocational training and skills development, as six-day event got off the ground yesterday, according to a statement by the bureau yesterday.
The delegation comprises representatives from Central People’s Government offices based in Macau, Legislative Assembly members, higher education institutions, vocational training organisations, industry associations and organisations governing various competitions, the statement said, adding that during the visit, the delegation will observe the competition in person and exchange views on areas including event organisation, curriculum design, international skills standards, and industry-education integration.
The statement said that the cross-sector visit aims to bring together resources and expertise from different sectors, allowing Macau’s training partners and business representatives to gain first-hand knowledge of the latest international technical trends and standards.
The delegation will also visit organisations related to technology and emerging industries in Shanghai to explore opportunities for cooperation in skills development and industry-education integration, the statement noted.
In addition to observing the competitions, the delegation will support Macau’s representatives competing at the WorldSkills event, the statement underlined, adding that the experience gained during the visit would provide a reference for optimising vocational education and talent development in Macau.
The initiative is also intended to support the local government’s “1+4” appropriate economic diversification strategy by helping develop skilled workers whose capabilities meet the needs of industrial transformation and economic development, the statement said.
The government said it will continue to bring together social resources to strengthen the connection between vocational training and industry needs, while promoting institutional innovation and increasing resources to provide young people with more opportunities for skills development and employment, the statement noted.
