In response to the government’s policy initiatives promoting “Tourism + Sports,” community business district revitalisation, and support for local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the “Pulse of Zape • Cultural & Sports Consumption Carnival - WTT Table Tennis Pop-Up District” is taking place through Sunday at the pedestrianised zones along Rua de Cantão (廣東街) and Rua de Pequim (北京街).
The opening ceremony for the carnival took place on Rua de Cantão in Zape yesterday.
WTT stands for World Table Tennis. Zape is the Portuguese acronym for Outer Harbour Land Reclamation Zone.
The 6-day carnival features 10 interactive sports game booths, including mini table tennis challenges, tabletop table tennis, tabletop curling, and other accessible sports experiences suitable for all age groups.
Macau Sports Enterprise Chamber of Commerce (MSECC) President Chan Man Chi told reporters yesterday that merchants in the Zape district are confident that the major event will drive local consumption.
Chan added that her association, in partnership with The Industry and Commerce Association of Macau, continues to deepen the “ticket-stub economy”* model. By capitalising on the spillover effects of the ongoing world-class WTT tournament in Cotai, the initiative aims to convert event spectators into foot traffic for local businesses, supporting local SMEs and driving the integrated development of “Sports + Tourism + District Revitalisation”, she said.
The event features a dual lucky draw with over 9,000 prizes available for both residents and tourists. Participants can join the lucky draw at the carnival information counter by completing social media check-ins/shares, playing games, or presenting a receipt showing a single-day purchase of 50 patacas or more at 500 eligible merchants in Zape, according to an MSECC statement.
Moreover, WTT ticket holders who spend 150 patacas or more at eligible businesses can participate in an upgraded draw. Prizes include an ultimate grand prize of star-autographed table tennis rackets, merchant discount vouchers, tickets to the Grand Prix Museum, and fitness sets.
In order to facilitate travel between the match venue and the carnival, a free dedicated shuttle bus service is available, connecting the Macau East Asian Games Dome in Cotai with Rua de Xangai (上海街) in Zape, the statement added.
