The government launched a joint cross-departmental operation yesterday to repossess a plot of government-owned land on Rua do Patane. The site is among 39 plots earmarked by the government for temporary utilisation, with plans to use it for new road development and a temporary leisure space, according to a statement issued by the Lands and Urban Construction Bureau (DSSCU) yesterday.
The statement said that the illegally occupied plot, located between Rua do Patane (沙梨頭街/石牆街) and Rua da Harmonia (福安街), covers about 985 square metres. The site had been fitted with unauthorised metal gates, hoardings, scaffolding, and canopy structures, and was being used to park a large number of vehicles.
The bureau had previously initiated land clearance procedures, ordering the illegal occupants to vacate and return the land to the government within a designated deadline, the statement said, adding that as the deadline expired without compliance, the government initiated the joint operation yesterday to officially repossess the property.
