Hong Kong artist and illustrator Cheung Kwan Ho is presenting a series of works in Macau for an 11-day exhibition titled “Searching For Views in Hong Kong” at the Rui Cunha Foundation (FRC) gallery.
Bringing his style of comic book creation to a Macau audience, Cheung, described by the organisers as someone with years of experience in the Hong Kong comic book industry, has published well-received books under his “Searching for Views” series.
His free-admission exhibition in Macau features a variety of works on display that are both in colour and black and white. It showcases Cheung’s creative take on Hong Kong from its crowded and bustling streets to wet markets and characteristic landmarks to its dense cityscapes and tall skyscrapers.
Macau is also the subject of two pieces on display, particularly the piece featuring A-Ma Temple, the Ruins of Saint Paul’s and the city skyline in one single frame.
Regarding his background, Cheung is the co-founder of “Firefly Production”, which, according to its website, was established in 2018 and is an online platform dedicated to bringing together creative entities from Hong Kong, working with like-minded brands and working towards the development of local creativity in the neighbouring SAR (special administrative region). It also produces and sells apparel and cultural books, among other products.
Aside from his “Searching for Views” series and collaborative works with other creatives in the anthology series “FireFly” and its sequel, the gallery’s statement singled out a major exhibition, titled “A Visual Voyage Hong Kong and Scenes”, held at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
The Cunha gallery on Avenida da Praia Grande is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and public holidays. The exhibition closes on August 15.
