The Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) announced in a statement yesterday that it has uncovered a case in which a Public Security Police (PSP) officer is suspected of running a red light and subsequently arranging for someone else to take the blame.
According to the statement, the suspect was already suspended from duty due to his involvement in another criminal case and had been working as a food delivery rider for an extended period without authorisation by the Public Security Police.
The statement withheld the suspect’s age, rank, and surname.
Subsequently, after being cited for running a red light, he is suspected of arranging for another person to falsely claim responsibility for the offence to the Public Security Police in exchange for a payment of 1,000 patacas, in order to evade accountability, the statement said.
During the investigation, the individual who was paid admitted to having accepted the money to act as a “fall guy” – taking the blame on behalf of the officer.
The officer and the accomplice have since been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), each facing a charge of document forgery.
Meanwhile, the Public Security Police announced in a separate statement late yesterday that disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the officer involved, and that they will actively cooperate with the CCAC.
